Here is a rundown of our recommended dating apps:

1) Tinder: The preferred app for singles to meet. You select from pictures of girls which girls you like. If they also like you, then there's a match and you can chat. It has a casual, hook-up reputation but many singles have used it to find a serious, long-term partner.

2) Hinge: This app matches you with friends of friends. You are only shown a limited number of users per day, and you can select which ones you like as in Tinder. The difference is that it's for people who want something more than a one-night-stand.

3) Bumble: Here the girls make the first move on guys.

4) Coffee Meets Bagel: You get one match per day. If you and the girl both accept then you can chat. If you don't accept the match, the app asks you why so it can find you a better match next time.

5) Happn: It matches you with people who have been at the same place as you recently that maybe you regret not talking to. In a way it gives you a second chance.

6) How about we ...: Essentially, the two of you decide what you’re going to do together before you meet up. You write about what kind of date you want to go on and can search, in your area, what others near you have suggested.

Women are more likely to respond to opening messages about food, like: “Chocolate, red velvet or funfetti?” or “Best discovery: Netflix or avocados?”

Women are more patient and play more of a waiting game with chatting. They don't want to seem desperate. If you don't message her within six hours, the chance she'll respond only drops by just 5%.

The best opening line to use depends on the age of the girl you're talking to.

1) If you're talking to a girl who is 18 to 23, a "novelty" or surprising opener is suggested. E.g. “You’re having your portrait painted, what’s your backdrop?” or “Pain reliever personality: Advil, Tylenol, or complaining?”

2) If you're trying to chat up women who are 24 to 28, start a conversation based around lifestyle or activities, so ask about brunch preferences or what the person likes to do on a Sunday. E.g. “Sunday priorities: exercise, sleep, or aggressive mimosas?” or “Better adventure: rock climbing or scuba diving?”

3) Those aged 29 to 34 tend to respond more to more personal conversation starters. Ask them something about themselves! E.g. “Two truths and a lie; ready, set, go!” or “Could you date someone who orders plain bagels with plain cream cheese when they have other options?”

4) If you'd like to talk to someone who is 35 or older, conversation starters with pop-culture references are recommended. E.g. “Katy Perry or Taylor Swift?” or “Bears, beets, or Battlestar Galactica?”

The main thing nowadays to keep in mind is to use more than “Hey” or “Hey, what’s up?”

Other lines you can use include: “What movie scared you the most when you were little?” ... “What was the first CD you ever bought yourself?” ... “Please confirm you’re not one of those people who claps when the plan lands.” ... “How was your 2004?” ... “Choose your dream job: puppy photographer or pizza critic?”

When using a dating application like Tinder, the most important thing you can do is have a good profile picture. Guys who have a professional photographer take their profile picture, have outstanding results and are full of dates.
